The privatization wave and years of economic boom allowed Lithuania and Eastern Europe in general to benefit from substantial foreign direct investments. In order to encourage the foreign investors the states entered a number of bilateral investment treaties designed to protect investments from political risks. This means that any measure of state or municipal institution, affecting business environment could fall under the scrutiny of independent arbitrators.

Investors’ Forum together with LAWIN invite you to the seminar “International protection of foreign investment or who is afraid of investment claims?”

This seminar aimed at foreign investors and companies owned by foreign shareholders and central and municipal public institutions affecting business environment will explore the benefits and opportunities offered by those bilateral investment treaties in cases of nationalisation, restriction of ownership or management rights, unilateral termination of contracts, prohibition of certain business activities, refusal to re-new business permits.
